The Global Wellness Institute values the wellness economy at $ 4.5 trillion
In October 2018, the Global Wellness Institute released the GWI Global Wellness Economy Monitor. According to the Report, the global wellness economy reached a value of $ 4.5 trillion in 2018.

The Global Wellness Institute, a non-profit organisation, is offers research and educational services for the global wellness industry. It defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices, and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.
According to the Global Wellness Institute’s (GWI) report:
Wellness expenditures reached $ 4.5 trillion and that was more than half as large as total global health expenditures $ 7.8 trillion. (based on WHO data).
The industry grew by 6.4 % annually from 2015–2017, from a $ 3.7 trillion to a $ 4.2 trillion market, nearly twice as fast as global economic growth (3.6 percent annually, based on IMF data).
The wellness industry represented 5.3 % of global economic output.
Among the 10 wellness markets analyzed, revenue growth leaders from 2015–2017 were the spa industry (9.8%), wellness tourism (6.5%) and wellness real estate (6.4%).

The Global Wellness Institute includes ten sectors in the global wellness economy, with a cumulative output of $ 4.2 trillion in 2018, representing 5.3% of global economic output.
By comparison, global health expenditures were estimated at $7.3 trillion in 2015. From 2015-2017, the wellness economy grew from $ 3.7 trillion to $ 4.2 trillion, or by 6.4% annually, a growth rate nearly twice as fast as global economic growth.
